TATA IPL 2025 Player retentions list announced
The player retention window for the TATA Indian Premier League 2025 season closed on 31, 2024, as all 10 franchises finalized their core lineups. The teams have retained a total of 46 players, investing a cumulative INR 558.5 crore.
With a total salary cap of INR 120 crore available at the mega auction for each team to form a squad of 25 players, franchises were allowed to retain up to six players RTM (Retention/Right to Match) with a maximum of live capped internationals and up to two uncapped India players.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and inaugural season champion Rajasthan Royals (RR) have opted for full retentions, securing six players each. Five teams -Chennai Super Kings(CSK), Gujarat Titans(GT), Lucknow Super Giants(LSG), Mumbai Indians(MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)- have retained five players. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals(DC), Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB), and Punjab Kings(PBKS) have retained four, three, and two players, respectively.
The IPL retentions are here and there were quite a few surprises in store for the fans. Three major captains – Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas lyer – will all enter the IPL auction pool after they were not retained by Delhi Capitals(DC) Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) respectively. Mumbai Indians (MI), on the other hand, kept their core intact by Keeping all four of their superstars – Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandey. Punjab Kings (PBKS) retained just 2 players while Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained six cricketers.
With INR 110.5 crore in hand , PBKS head into the highly anticipated action-packed mega auction with the largest purse.
