IPL 2025 Player Retention List Announced

Teams Finalize Their Core Lineups

The excitement for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is building up as the
player retention window officially closed on October 31, 2024. All 10 franchises have
now finalized their core squads, retaining some of their key players for the upcoming
season. In total, 46 players have been retained across the league, with a combined
investment of INR 558.5 crore.

How Retention Work:-

Each IPL franchise had a salary cap of INR 120 crore for the upcoming mega auction,
where they can build a squad of up to 25 players. The teams were allowed to retain up
to six players, with the option of using a Retention or Right to Match card. This includes
a maximum of five capped international players and two uncapped Indian players.

Let’s take a look at how the teams have choose their squads ahead of the 2025 season:

Full Retentions:-

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):

The defending champions have kept six players,
including big names like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. They have also retained the
rising star, Rinku Singh.

Rajasthan Royals (RR):

The inaugural season champions have gone for a full
retention too, keeping six players, including captain Sanju Samson, Yashaswi Jaiswal,
and the in-form Shimron Hetmyer.

Full Retentions:-

Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has retained Ruturaj
Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and th fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.

Gujarat Titans (GT):-

The Titans have kept their players like Rashid Khan, Shubman
Gill, and Rahul Tewatia.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG):

This squad includes Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi,
and the Mayank Yadav.

Mumbai Indians (MI):

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah are all
retained as MI aims to continue its dominance in the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):-

With players like Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and
Travis Head retained.

Some Retentions:-

Delhi Capitals (DC):

DC has kept four players, including key bowlers Axar Patel and
Kuldeep Yadav.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

RCB retained Virat Kohli, the face of the
franchise, and two more players Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal.

Punjab Kings (PBKS):

PBKS made only just two retentions, Prabhsimran Singh and
Shashank Singh. However, with a large amount of INR 110.5 crore, they have plenty of
funds for the mega auction.
